Energy Efficiency requirements for new homes and alterations & additions to existing homes

The house energy rating software First Rate has been upgraded. First Rate 4 is no longer allowed to be used to rate houses. First Rate energy assessors must be accredited to use First Rate 5 for new homes. Mountain Creek Architecture is an accredited assessor in First Rate 5.

After May 2008, home alterations and additions are required to meet minimum energy efficiency standards, as set out in the Building Code of Australia, Volume 2, Part 3.12. This includes complying with minimum standards for orientation, insulation, window heat transfer, thermal mass, light and ventilation.
